Jira field mapping guide (what to keep vs drop)

A guide for agencies migrating from Jira: which fields to keep, which to drop, and how to avoid importing the admin overhead.

Guides Import Jira
Guide. This is a recommended workflow for agencies. Use it even if you’re not using Timelint yet.

Most Jira fields exist because someone once needed them. Agencies usually need far fewer fields to ship work.

This guide helps you decide what to keep.

Fast navigation
Less field sprawl makes daily work faster.

Keep these (usually)

  • Title / summary
  • Description
  • Status
  • Priority
  • Assignee
  • Reporter/requester
  • Labels/tags (a small set)

Consider dropping these

  • Custom fields nobody can define in one sentence
  • Duplicate “category” fields
  • Fields that exist only for reporting, not for shipping

Replace with simple habits

  • Use ticket status definitions (short, explicit)
  • Use a triage checklist
  • Keep client updates on the ticket thread

If you want a Jira-style mental model without the field sprawl, see: Import from Jira.
